Flesh, Bone, Earth: Jim Leedy's Millennium

Ceramics were in the realm of craft, not art, until sometime in the last 30 or 40 years when a number of clay artists, Jim Leedy among them, began playing with the form, moving it beyond some mundane function as perceived by an imaginary art elite.

Potters through the ages treated the functionality of their craft with a plasticity not unlike the medium. They fashioned bowls. They made little gods. They made big gods. They made heaps of Earth.
